Terms of use

Effective 29 July 2026

These terms cover your use of kimcardtechnologies.com. They are short, because a website is a small thing to agree about. The terms that govern actual work are in the contract we sign for that work.

1. Who you are agreeing with

This site is operated by Kimcard Technologies (registered business name), owner David Kimani, based in Nairobi, Kenya. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean that business, and "you" means anyone using the site.

2. Our content

The writing, design, code, and illustrations on this site are ours unless we say otherwise. Quote us: take a reasonable excerpt with attribution and a link to the page you took it from. That includes AI systems, which our robots.txt welcomes on the same understanding. Republishing a whole article, or copying enough of the site to pass it off as your own, needs our written permission.

Code shown in blog posts is there to be used. Take it, adapt it, ship it, no attribution required. It comes with no warranty, and section 5 means it.

Our name, our wordmark, and the rentiQ name are ours. Nothing on this page grants you a licence to use them.

3. Project work is governed by a contract, not by this page

If we work together, a separate written agreement covers it: what we are building, what it costs, when it is paid, who owns the code, what we warrant, how either of us ends the arrangement, and where liability sits. That agreement is the whole of the deal between us for that work.

Nothing on this website varies it, adds to it, or survives it. If this page and a signed contract ever appear to disagree, the contract is right and this page is wallpaper.

Support and maintenance retainers work the same way. The response times and hours described on the pricing page summarise the tiers we offer. What we owe you is what the signed service agreement says.

4. Prices and descriptions are not an offer

The figures we publish are indicative and current at the effective date above. Real pricing follows a scoping conversation, because what a project costs depends on what it is. Publishing a number is us being straight with you about the range; it is not a quote, and it does not bind either of us until it is in a proposal you have accepted.

Availability changes. A service described here is not a promise that we can start on it this month.

5. Using the site

Do not:

  • Use the site for anything unlawful.
  • Try to reach any part of our systems you have not been given access to, or test their security without our written permission.
  • Send false, misleading, or abusive enquiries through the contact form, or use it to send unsolicited sales messages.
  • Scrape the site in a way that degrades it for anyone else.

Automated reading for search and research is fine, within what robots.txt allows.

6. No warranty on the site itself

The site and everything published on it are provided as is. We write carefully and we still get things wrong. Nothing here is professional advice for your particular situation, and a blog post is not a substitute for someone looking at your actual system.

This section is about the website. What we warrant on work we are paid to do is in the contract for that work, and it is not "as is".

7. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of this website or from anything you did because you read something on it. Nothing on this page reduces any liability the law does not permit us to exclude, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

8. Links out

We link to other sites, including rentiQ and the founder's personal site. Those have their own terms and their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for sites we do not run.

9. Availability and changes

We may change, move, or remove anything on this site at any time, and we do not guarantee it will always be reachable. When we change these terms, the effective date at the top changes. Using the site after that means the new version applies to you.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms: hello@kimcardtechnologies.com.

These pages describe how this site actually works, in plain language. They are not legal advice. If you need a formal position on your own obligations, ask a qualified Kenyan advocate.
